When I think of the perfect glossy red lip, the first thing that comes to mind are candy apples! If you know me quite well, you know that red lips are my staple for almost every occasion. I simply can’t get over them! You could literally get away with wearing very minimal makeup and still look fabulous by simply adding a bold red lip. Also, red lipstick with blue undertones make your teeth appear like beautiful pearly whites and who doesn’t love a quick whitening?
The most trusty red lipsticks that I typically wear include MAC’s Ruby Woo and my all time favorite Russian Red! Although these lipsticks are amazing and are also decently priced, they are somewhat too drying (Ruby Woo) and a bit too dark (Russian Red) for the upcoming spring season. I must say that matte red lipsticks will most likely always be my top pick, but wearing a glossy red lip may be the best choice for spring!
I wanted to recreate this spring red lip, providing you with the alternative of using both high end and budget friendly products. So whether you want to splurge on this perfect lip or simply achieve this look without breaking your budget, I have the look for you!
Look 1: Splurge
Step 1 : Applying red lip liner to outline and shade your lips is very important. Since the lipstick’s glossy finish is not the most long lasting, the liner will help the lipstick from wearing off as quickly by sealing in the color. Here I applied Urban Decay’s 24/7 Glide-on lip pencil in Catfight ($20). This strawberry red liner is rather pink, but I figured since the lipstick I will be using is a darker shade of red, a lighter lip liner will help lighten and boost the lip color.Step 2: Apply Lancome Rouge in Love lipstick in 185 ($28.50) on top of the liner. This lipstick is the prettiest shade of red and looks very glossy and vivid on the lips. I especially love that it is long wearing lasting up to six hours! After a few minutes, the lipstick will settle but the glossiness remains! Here’s a closer look:Tip: You could always add a bit of lip gloss to enhance the glossiness of the look!
Look 2: On a budget
Step 1: Here I applied Rimmel’s Exaggerate Full Colour Lip Liner in 024 Red Diva ($6.49 or less). Don’t you just love that name! This liner is a beautiful show stopping true red. I chose this deeper shade of liner because the lipstick that I will be applying is of much lighter consistency and combining the two will help balance the final look.Step 2: Apply Revlon’s Colorburst Lip Butter in Candy Apple ($8.29 or less). I wouldn’t exactly call this a lipstick… it is more of a highly pigmented lip balm and so pairing it up with a lip liner is essential. I absolutely love the smooth glossy finish on my lips!A Here’s a closer look:Tip: A black winged liner complements a red lip beautifully!
